We have a wonderful music program at Lord of Life led by Tim Elder. Tim and his group perform at our service on Saturday nights and during our Sunday service at 10:45 am.
Tim L. Elder is a native of the Warren, PA. area. Â He received both his Bachelor and Master degrees in music education from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. His organ teachers have included Mr. John Slaney of Warren, PA and William K. Miller, Dr. Ronald L. Gould, Dr. Robert E. Hopkins and Dr. Daniel W. Laginya. His vocal teachers have included Dr. David Starkey of YSU and William Ambert of Westminster College of New Willmington, PA. He is currently pursuing the Master of Arts in Church Music degree (MACM) at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
He recently retired from Howland Local Schools in Warren, OH where he taught music education to students in grades K-12 for thirty years. Â For the last twenty years of his career, he taught elementary music education to students in grades 3-5.Â
Tim has served the people of Lord of Life for over twenty years as Director of Music. His duties include; playing for all weekend services, directing the Lord of Life Sanctuary Choir, selecting music and hymns for weekend worships as well as playing for funerals and weddings which occur at the church.Tim has been a member of the Cathedral Choir of Saint Columba in Youngstown for over 20 years. Â He has sung for many Diocesan events including Deacon and Priest ordinations as well as the installation Masses for both former Bishop Tobin and the Diocese present Bishop George Murray. He has also been involved as a Cantor for weekend Masses at the parish.
Tim has served on the Worship Sub-Committee of the Northeast Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Â He has acted as musician for both Synod Assemblies and Synod Ordinations â€“ including the installation and ordination of Pastor Rebecca Zielke of Lord of Life.Â
He has earned the Colleague certificate from the American Guild of Organists (CAGO) as well as the Presiding Bishopâ€™s Certificate from the Leadership Program for Musicians (LPM). He has served on the Executive Committee for the Youngstown Chapter of the AGO and has also served as Sub-Dean and Dean of the Chapter. Â In addition to being a member of the AGO, Tim also belongs to the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM).Â
Tim resides in Austintown, OH with his wife Laura and daughter Elizabeth.
