A Brief History of Lord of Life
"Our Father, we thank thee for what this day brings to us. Especially are we thankful for the birth of Lord of Life Lutheran Church. May it and its people always be found faithful in worship and work. Bless the whole Christian Church, O God, and make it fit for the coming of thy Kingdom. Amen."
This began the Service for the Organization of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield, Ohio. This service was held in the C.H. Campbell Elementary School at 9:30 am on Pentecost, May 17, 1964. Dr. Herbert Veler, president of the Ohio Synod of the Lutheran Church in America delivered the sermon and conducted the Rite of Organization. One hundred-sixty people attended worship that morning and ninety-seven adult members were received as Charter Members of Lord of Life through the Rite of Confirmation.
After the Service of Organization, the first congregational meeting was held. A constitution was adopted, council members elected, and a budget approved. By unanimous secret ballot, a call was extended to Pastor Gerald Swanson, who became the first Pastor of Lord of Life.
