The Servant - December 2015
PASTOR'S LETTER December 2015
Read this to understand the calendar of names!
The season of Advent is upon us. It is the season that begins the church year even though it falls at the end of the calendar year. The weeks of Advent are intended to help us prepare for Christmas. As we rush around decorating, shopping, baking, attending parties or concerts, Advent breaks into our lives to bring peace and calm, to remind us of the true importance of the upcoming Christmas celebration.
In addition to the decorating, giving and caroling activities we have scheduled for this month, we will also provide opportunities for peace and calm through prayer on the Wednesdays of December. On Wednesday December 2nd, a labyrinth will be set up in the fellowship hall between 6-8 pm. You are invited to come and walk the path (no shoes on labyrinth) that gives you quiet time to pray and meditate on the real gift we have received and celebrate at Christmas. On Wednesday December 9th and 16th we will meet in the Sanctuary at 6:00 pm for a brief Taize prayer service.
I have come to understand more fully how important prayer is in our lives. Sometimes our prayers focus on others because we think we shouldn’t pray for ourselves. Sometimes our prayers focus so much on our own lives that we forget to pray for others. When troubles come and times are tough, we often forget to turn to God in prayer. So at this beginning of the church year, during this holy season that prepares us for a holy celebra-tion, I’d like to encourage us to pray for one another. That is why you have a calendar with the names of all the members who are listed in our directory. I ask that each day we pray for the fami-lies and individuals listed. If you don’t know them, just pray in general for whatever you wish for that person or family. If you do know the people, see if there is something for which they would like prayer. It is really touching to know that someone is praying for you. It also strengthens our relationships with one another.
May you have a blessed Advent and be touched even more by the God who came near the in the birth of Christ.
Grace and peace,

2016 is right around the corner! New offering envelopes are available in the Fellowship Hall. Flower and light charts will be posted soon. Don’t forget to sign for your special dates. A Fellowship Meal is scheduled for the third Sunday in January, following the Annual Meeting of the Church. Church Council and Board members are reminded to submit your annual reports!
We recently completed our annual Stewardship drive. As part of Stewardship we want to have an ongoing program to keep the congregation informed of our financial status on a monthly basis.
Starting in January, Council will produce two graphs each month; one will reflect our building fund status (see example below) and the other our general fund status. These will be published in the Servant as well as displayed in the Fellowship Hall. We hope that these graphs will help Lord of Life identify and correct any financial issue before it becomes a significant problem.

Our Hands Advent Wreath
Do you remember when we all traced our hands on the green paper for Tim? Check out the bulletin board in the Sunday School hallway. Tim Elder designed and put the wreath up. Each Sunday another candle will be “lit.†Thanks Tim for making sure we are all a part of the creativity.
